Do you drink lemon water to lose weight? Well, you are wasting your time

Lemon water. A magic potion that promises to solve all your health problems, or so people say. So, if you want to lose weight and you are looking for a quick home remedy--you turn to lemon water. In fact, most people believe that drinking lemon water early in the morning or after dinner will help them shed kilos. You probably heard this from an aunty, a friend, your mom, or a colleague. But, is it true? Can lemon really help you lose weight? Well, there are a lot of myths surrounding it and we will help you get to the bottom of it all.

Myth 1: Lemon Water Helps You Lose Weight

Truth: Yes, having lemon water is good for your health. But, it is NOT potent enough to help you lose flab. You see, lemon has a fibre called pectin. Pectin helps you lose weight and it is found in apples too. However, lemon has very less amount of pectin. Not enough to cause weight loss. So, if you are banking on lemon to lose weight then you are in for disappointment. Instead, eat oats, beans, phalee.

Myth 2: Lemon Helps You Detoxify

Truth: Sorry, this is not true either. The fact of the matter is that water helps you detoxify. The more you drink, the more your body will flush out toxins. So, putting lemon in it will hardly make a difference. Apart from vitamin C, lemon has no other properties that aid in detoxifying.

In fact, believe it or not, your body doesn't need to be cleansed at all. Yes, a lot of diet detoxes and liquid cleanses promise to get the junk out of your body but your kidneys and liver do all the detoxifying you need.

Myth 3: Lemon Boosts Metabolism

Truth: Many of us like to drink a glass of lemon water early in the morning to speed up our metabolism. But, unfortunately that doesn't have an impact. In fact, there's no association between them whatsoever. Foods like cayenne pepper, temporarily speed up metabolism through the thermic effect of food. However, lemon does not have that property.

Myth 4: Lemon Juice Has Anti-Aging Properties

Truth: Yes, lemon has an abundance of antioxidants, which do great things for your skin. However, they can't prevent aging. According to a report published in Prevention, lemon juice does contain moderately high levels of vitamin C, which plays a role in skin health by helping with the formation of collagen, [a structural protein that wards off wrinkles], but there are many other food options when it comes to getting enough vitamin C.
